Induction Process
Before the first day at camp, we will discuss any specific needs for your child. Parents have the opportunity to ask any questions and we are always here to listen to parents and make the process of settling into camp a fun and easy one.
At Essential Dance we aim to build confidence and encourage independence. We understand that separation and change can sometimes be a difficult experience for both parents and child but it's an important step in a child's development and we are here to make the process as pain free as possible.
We recognise the importance of having key people/teachers who the children can form secure attachments with. They help with settling in and are your main point of contact for any queries, concerns and updates.
We are happy for you to leave your child with a special item as a comfort.
We suggest for any children that do suffer with separation anxiety that it's best not to hover for too long and show the child that you are confident that they will be fine and enjoy their time at dancing.

WHAT TO BRING
Please bring the following each day:
- A fresh, filled water bottle (Still drinks only)
- A named jumper or jacket
- Spare clothes
What to do if my child is sick
Children should not be brought to dance camp if they are feeling unwell.
Please contact Kerrie by phone or email to let her know that your child will not be coming to camp and repeat this procedure until your child is ready to return.
If a child requires medicine for a high temperature they should not come to camp until consulting a doctor.
If a child becomes ill whilst at dance camp the carer/parent will be contacted and asked to collect the child. The child will be cared for until the parent arrives but we do ask that you come as soon as possible.
There is always a paediatric first aider on site.
Please provide us with details of the illness in case we need to inform other parents e.g: chicken pox, slap cheek.
Should a child have an infectious disease such as an eye/ear infection or sickness and diarrhoea, they should not return to camp until they have been clear for 48hours. Please see the Illness/Exclusion section for a full list of specific instructions on common illnesses.
Parents will be informed if a contagious illness is identified at summer camp. This will allow parents to look for early signs of the illness. Our aim is to prevent the spread of infection and the studio will be sterilised and cleaned thoroughly to prevent the risk to other children.

Administering Medication
The good health of our dancers is paramount and all necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection.
Parents must inform the dance school of allergies and intolerances.
If a child has prescribed medication they must provide a personalised care plan form to be signed by a parent with reference to name, dose, how much and when, date and storage requirements.
The form must be signed and witnessed by a member of staff
All usage including inhalers must be recorded at time of use.
Prescribed inhalers, EPI Pens and antihistamine should be kept in the child’s bag clearly labelled. Parents will be informed is medication is used. If an EPI pen is used then paramedics will also be called.
Students must be able to use all inhalers., EPI pens and anti-histamines effectively and independently and no staff member will be able to assist.
The use of paracetamol/ibuprofen based medicine can be administered for a short initial period. The Principal will make the final decision whether your child is well enough to stay at dance camp.
Creams need to be administered by parents before dancing and if required during dance camp hours parents will need to come into school to apply this.
