Objectives
The objectives below show the approach we take to ensure we achieve a strong working partnership with our parents:
- We ensure that Essential Dance staff are always available for discussion when required. Arrangements can be made for more lengthy discussions.
- We keep information provided by parents about their children confidential according to Jersey Datas Protection Law.
- Information is shared on a strictly need to know basis.
- Staff are discreet and do not discuss detail of children and their activities outside of dance class.
- We ensure regular newsletters to keep parents up to date with information about the whole dance school.
- If we have any concerns about a child's wellbeing during the day every effort will be made to contact the parents or their emergency contact.
- we request that parents keep us informed of any changes to relevant personal details e.g change of address, telephone number, emergency contact.
- We request that parents also keep us informed of any circumstances which might influence a child's emotional well being..
Parents are able to access children's records by arrangement with the dance school principal.
Induction
Before the first day at class, we will discuss any specific needs for your child. Parents have the opportunity to ask any questions and we are always here to listen to parents and make the process of settling into class a fun and easy one.
At Essential Dance we aim to build confidence and encourage independence. We understand that separation and change can sometimes be a difficult experience for both parents and child but it's an important step in a child's development and we are here to make the process as pain free as possible.
We recognise the importance of having key people/teachers who the children can form secure attachments with. They help with settling in and are your main point of contact for any queries, concerns and updates.
We are happy for you to leave your child with a special item as a comfort.
We suggest for any children that do suffer with separation anxiety that it's best not to hover for too long and show the child that you are confident that they will be fine and enjoy their time at dancing.

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS
Please bring the following to each class:
- A fresh, filled water bottle (Still drinks only)
- Make sure all items of clothing are clearly labelled.
What to do if my child is sick
Children should not be brought to dance class if they are feeling unwell.
Please contact Kerrie by phone or email to let her know that your child will not be coming to class and repeat this procedure until your child is ready to return.
If a child becomes ill whilst at class the carer/parent will be contacted and asked to collect the child. The child will be cared for until the parent arrives but we do ask that you come as soon as possible.
There is always a paediatric first aider on site.
Please provide us with details of the illness in case we need to inform other parents e.g: chicken pox, slap cheek.
Should a child have an infectious disease such as an eye/ear infection or sickness and diarrhoea, they should not return to classes until they have been clear for 48hours. Please see the Illness/Exclusion section for a full list of specific instructions on common illnesses.
Parents will be informed if a contagious illness is identified at class. This will allow parents to look for early signs of the illness. Our aim is to prevent the spread of infection and the studio will be sterilised and cleaned thoroughly to prevent the risk to other children.
